    TAIPEI, Taiwan — Local media are reporting that Microsoft Taiwan General Manager Steven Shaw (邵光華) has resigned as the U.S.-based tech giant announced it will lay off thousands of employees globally.

    The company has been shifting its focus from licensing its programs in a one-time basis to selling online subscriptions for its software.

    U.S. reports put the number of layoffs worldwide as up to 3,000.
